Carmarthen Town AFC is delighted to announce their new management team of Neil Smothers and Danny Thomas. Neil will take on the role as Team Manager, with Danny becoming his assistant.

Neil’s playing career for us speaks for itself having played 230 WPL games, won a League Cup and had 7 European appearances. As a coach, he has also previously won the League Cup twice.

Danny has 145 WPL appearances, holding our top goal scoring record for many a year.  His highlight was scoring two goals in Bergen against SK Brann when the Old Gold last played in Europe.

Chris Edwards, Club Chairman, stated “Their record as our management team since January has been excellent. Therefore it was an easy decision to welcome them aboard on a full time basis. We look forward to working with them both as they look to build a competitive team for this coming Welsh Premier League Season.”

“Neil has also recently been accepted onto the FAW Pro Licence Course, which will no doubt enhance his vision for the game and add to his coaching and managerial abilities, from which we will all benefit.”

Managing Director, Jeff Thomas added: “One additional advantage to the appointment of the new managerial team is that it ensures continuity within the club. With both having been players and coaches with the club they are familiar with the set up and also with the people who administer Carmarthen Town Football Club.”

“The players have already proved that they can react positively to Neil and Danny with some excellent performances during the second phase of the season.”

“Both Neil and Danny understand the responsibilities that their new roles within the club bring and are grateful for the chance to make their mark as an innovative and progressive management team.”

Chairman Edwards added: “The new lineup have already been busy arranging preseason fixtures for the Welsh Premier League side and have also met up with Academy Director, Jonathan Garcia.”

Neil Smothers himself emphasised:“I would just like to confirm that Danny and myself are delighted to have agreed with the club to be the management team for the upcoming season.  It has always been a fantastic club with great support from the committee and fans alike. We hope that there are exciting times ahead for the whole club and all teams within it and can assure you that as a first team squad we will be doing our best and working our hardest to make sure that we have a successful season and a season that everyone can be proud of.”
